FATF to decide Pakistan's fortune tomorrow

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s fortune will be decided tomorrow by the plenary of Financial Action Task Force (FATF) whether to remove it from the grey list or keep the country list for another extended period (Thursday) in Paris.

As per media information, the FATF plenary has already started its three-day deliberations and Pakistan’s case will come under discussion on the last day of the meeting tomorrow (Friday).

The previous plenary was started in the month of June but could not go ahead due to the Coronavirus pandemic and eventually the plenary was postponed.

It is worth mentioning here that the PATF plenary allowed Pakistan four months as a grace period to accomplish its 27 tasks against money laundering and terror financing (ML&TF) after Pakistan was acquiescent on 14 action points in February 2020.

Pakistan was placed in the grey list by the International Watchdog in the month of June 2018 due to raising objections over its fulfillment obligation on 40 recommendations.
