India’s Congress Party Leader, Rahul Gandi remarked that Pakistan and Afghanistan control the Coronavirus pandemic better than India. He gave these remarks while criticizing the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) response over the Covid-19 pandemic on Friday.
In a Tweet along with a graph of International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) gross domestic product (GDP) projections for many countries and an ironic comment: “Another concrete achievement by the BJP government.”
As per the graph, the Indian economy is predicted to contract by 10.3 percent during the current year, the maximum contraction among the other countries like China, Bhutan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, and Afghanistan.
In accordance with the Hindustan Times, this scenario would be the largest droop of any major emerging nation and the most horrible since Independence.
The IMF, during its World Economic Outlook (WEO) 2020 broadcasted on Tuesday, slash its predict for India’s GDP growth, which cut down at its steepest pace of 23.9pc in the June quarter. It now expects Asia’s third-biggest economy to contract 10.3pc for the fiscal year compared with its June forecast of a 4.5pc drop.
Rahul Gandhi, subsequent to the IMF report, had tweeted: “Concrete achievement of six years of BJP’s hate-filled cultural nationalism: Bangladesh set to overtake India.”
IMF apprised forecasts for the world economy are “somewhat less dire” as rich nations and China have recovered faster than expected from Covid-19 lockdowns, but the outlook for many emerging markets has deteriorated.
The IMF apprised the infection was continuing to spread in large countries, including India and Indonesia, and those economies were far more reliant on hard-hit sectors including tourism and commodities as well as on remittances and other sources of external finance.
