Pakistan achieves milestone to become 18th country of the world to manufacture heart stents

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has achieved the milestone to roll in the list of few countries that have the technology to manufacture heart stents domestically after Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan Imran Khan inaugurated the N-Ovative Health Technology Facility at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) on Friday.

According to the statement of the Prime Minister Office, this is the first-ever facility to domestically manufacture heart stents, the PM Office further added that this makes Pakistan the 18th country in the world to manufacture heart stents locally.

Before the inauguration, Fawad Chaudhry, Federal Minister for Science and Technology has apprised Pakistan to be taking “another huge step” in the field of medical technology with the opening of the service.

In his Tweet, the Minister said “Today, the PM is going to inaugurate a heart stents manufacturing facility at NUST Science Park,”. He further added that the stents will be produced as per European standards, and would place Pakistan among a group of selected countries that can produce heart stents.

In the meanwhile, Shahbaz Gill, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Political Communication apprised that Pakistan would be a ‘second Muslim country’ in the world and South Asia following Turkey and India, respectively, to produce heart stents domestically.

He further added that “It will conserve Rs 8 billion annually in foreign exchange. Congratulations to the nation and scientists”.
